Pirojsha Adi Godrej is an Indian business leader who serves as Executive Chairperson of Godrej Industries Limited and Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group, having taken charge on 14 August 2026. He also continues as Chairperson of Godrej Properties, Godrej Capital and Godrej Ventures. A fourth-generation member of the Godrej family, he is the son of Adi Godrej and Parmeshwar Godrej, brother of Tanya Dubash and Nisaba Godrej, and nephew of Nadir Godrej, whom he succeeded as Group Chairperson.

Education & Early Career

Pirojsha was schooled at The Cathedral & John Connon School in Mumbai. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (2002), a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (2004), and an MBA from Columbia Business School (2008).

Before establishing himself in the family business, he gained experience in public policy and government affairs, including a stint as Additional Private Secretary to India’s Minister of State for External Affairs in New Delhi and an internship in the New York Senate office of Hillary Clinton

Journey with Godrej Properties

Pirojsha joined Godrej Properties in 2004, choosing a relatively small unit of the group that no other family member was actively steering at the time. After a break to complete his MBA, he returned in 2008 as Executive Director.

2009-10 IPO: He led the company’s initial public offering, which raised approximately US$100 million. Bidding took place in December 2009 and the shares listed on the BSE and NSE in January 2010

2012: Appointed Managing Director and CEO at the age of 31, making him the first of  the younger generation of Godrejs to hold direct profit-and-loss responsibility for a  listed group company.

2017: Became Executive Chairman (later Executive Chairperson) of Godrej Properties.

Under his leadership, Godrej Properties shifted towards a more capital-efficient development model, relying on joint developments and development management partnerships rather than primarily on traditional land banking. The company emerged as India’s largest publicly listed real estate developer by sales in FY2016, and became the country’s largest developer by residential sales in FY2021 – a position it has continued to hold.

Building New Businesses

Beyond real estate, Pirojsha founded Godrej Capital, the group’s financial services arm, and Godrej Ventures, its new-business platform. His remit has therefore spanned real estate, financial services and emerging ventures within the wider Godrej ecosystem.

Leadership at Godrej Industries Group

In April 2024, the Godrej family restructured the conglomerate into two independent entities: the listed Godrej Industries Group (GIG), under the families of Adi and Nadir Godrej, and the unlisted Godrej Enterprises Group, led by Jamshyd Godrej and Nyrika Holkar. That settlement had already mapped out Pirojsha’s eventual succession at GIG.

On 13 April 2026, he was named Chairperson-Designate of Godrej Industries Limited and the Godrej Industries Group. The board approved his re-designation on 13 August 2026, and he took charge as Executive Chairperson (Whole-Time Director) of Godrej Industries Limited and Chairperson of the Group with effect from 14 August 2026 – subject to shareholder approval, for a term running to August 2031. He succeeded Nadir Godrej, who retired as Chairman and Managing Director on turning 75 and became Chairman Emeritus. As part of the same reshuffle, Burjis Godrej became Chairperson of Godrej Agrovet. At 45, Pirojsha became one of the youngest Indian business leaders to head a group of this scale.

His mandate covers strategic capital allocation, corporate growth and governance across the group’s businesses. The Group has reported more than 20% compounded annual growth in sales and net profits over the five years to FY2026. As of April 2026, its publicly listed businesses had a combined market capitalisation of more than US$20 billion, and the group valued its six principal businesses at around Rs 2 lakh crore.

On taking charge, Pirojsha set out a five-year plan to grow group value to roughly Rs 5 lakh crore by 2031, built on sharper capital allocation, clearer performance benchmarks for each business, and the potential listing of currently unlisted companies such as Godrej Capital and the chemicals business.

Focus on Sustainability & Growth

Sustainability has been a consistent thread through his leadership. During his tenure at Godrej Properties, projects such as Godrej Garden City in Ahmedabad were built around sustainability-focused development principles. In the 2025 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), Godrej Properties recorded its highest-ever score of 100 points and was ranked No. 1 among global residential developers; the company has participated in the assessment since 2013, with its ESG disclosures prepared to GRI standards and externally assured.

Outlook

Pirojsha Godrej’s role now spans the full breadth of the Godrej Industries Group – real estate, consumer products, agri-business, chemicals, financial services and new ventures – with a stated focus on long-term growth, disciplined capital allocation, sustainability and strengthening the group’s position across its key sectors
